Counselling for couples
I work with couples, and with clients in pairs who are experiencing relationship difficulties and impasses. When communication is strained, or breaks down altogether, it can be helpful to involve a skilled other person where dialogue can re-start. The counselling room can be a safe space for each person is able to express themself, to be heard by the other and start to find a way forward.
Each relationship is different, and how we work together will depend on what you bring as a couple. Here are some examples of the difficulties I can work with :
• Difficulties in communication
• Anger and conflict
• Breakdown in trust after infidelity
• Anxiety, depression and trauma within the relationship
• Illness within the couple
• Transitions within relationships, including decisions to have children, parenting, blended families, ‘empty nests’, ageing, becoming grandparents
• Changes at work including unemployment, downshifting, retirement
• Fertility, childlessness
• Feelings after miscarriage and termination
• Adoption support (I am a qualified adoption support counsellor)
• Sexuality and sexual problems
• Deciding whether to separate
• Communication around and after separation or divorce
I work weekly or fortnightly with couples in person at Barnsbury Therapy Rooms, with occasional sessions on Zoom once we have met a few times. Any availability I have will be between 8am - 5pm on Mondays- Thursdays.
